Dear readers of the PILGRIM newsletter,
current events made me think about life and the right to live.

I admired the life of Arik Brauer, who, despite the unspeakable dangers he had experienced during the period of persecution of the Jews, called himself a happy man, to be listened to in diverse interesting contributions on YouTube. He lived to the age of 92 and passed away on January 24, 2021. Art was his life, his center was his family, where singing was part of everyday life.

I was disturbed by the many media reports about aging people regarding future vaccinations. Attention has been focused on the old and sick, and accusations are emerging that they are the cause of the lock-down and subsequent economic freeze. Thoughts about growing old and the question of the right to live came up in me as.

I was affected and touched by the end of life of our 15 ½ year old dog. The question of how long a life was worth living arose with the dog as a family member in a similar way as it is asked with people. People today often reach old age, whether in health or often with illness and suffering, and yet every day of life has its meaning, for themselves and for their loved ones, although we often understand this only after the fact. The great art is to find the meaning and happiness in everything that happens and that one experiences.

It is therefore especially important to give our elderly and sick fellow human beings the feeling of being accepted and the love that is necessary for this. And what does all this have to do with school? It is the task of the teachers to make this a subject of discussion in the classroom.
